Hypnotic Sedatives Definition and differences

Sedatives are the drugs which usually calms down the patient and subdues excitement, but there is no induction of sleep but drowsiness can be produced.
Hypnotics are the drugs which induces sleep in patients.
A sedative drug used in higher concentration can act as hypnotic in many cases.
