The real and fictional story of "The Cuckoo's Calling"

The Cuckoo's Calling released into the market as being penned by Robert Galbraith posed as a army veteran. The latest confession is that Robert Galbraith is just a pseudonym for one of the all time hits of Harry Potter creator J.K Rowling.

The real story behind the expose
Richard Brooks, Sunday Times arts editor is the one behind tracking down and finally uncovering the pseudonym.
Look at these real time events
One of the colleague of Brooks posts on twitter that The Cuckoo’s calling might not be a creation of first time author.
Reply comes from an anonymous author that J.K Rowling is the author of that book and followed by a confirmation of the same.
Later the Twitter account is gone into the air, nowhere to be seen.
Brook’s investigation begins and finds out about the similarities between "The Casual Vacancy" and "The Cuckoo's Calling" like sharing the same agent, publisher and editor in Britain that is David Shelley.
Later reading the book and finding striking similarities with the books of Rowling, sends it to computer linguistic experts to confirm about the single author.
Finally shoots off a mail to the publisher questioning whether both authors are same. The publishers confide the same.

The fictional story

The story of "The Cuckoo's Calling" is also as fascinating as the real story that unfolded in getting Rowling out of the pseudonym. The book generates the curiosity, the story telling grips us as the fictional story unfolds to give this crime fiction an interesting read as of Sherlock Homes series.

Chetan Bhagat - Revolution 2020 and a real review

The new thing by Chetan Bhagath  has hit the stores now. So here is a brief review of this new arrival.
If you are a fan of him, I think you will not be disapointed this time also. The book also has a social perspective as seen in the title "Revolution 2020". The overwhelming desire of both students and parents who flock into Kota to get training to crack the IIT's and AIEEE is depicted very nicely with both hilarious and sarcastic description of the coaching institution and its methods. The losers life is heart warming. The book also takes a hit at our present educational system and the corruption that exists which create hurdles for honest people to enter into the management of these educational institutions. And further gives a clear picture of how law is circumvented by the high profiles in setting up and running these institutions. The author has finally come out of the all romance book and invested a considerable time in the book for social issues related to education system and corruption. And of course, he does not disappoint in the romance section also. After all it is the story of two boys who love the same girl.

The Beautiful Mind and the Ironic Words

"Exactly how are we supposed to keep the world safe for democracy if we're stewing to death"
The words are from the film "The Beautiful Mind" based on the life of Nobel winning economist John Nash.
These words though very ironic, in the film it is referred to the non working air conditioners.
But the words weigh very much when we change the sphere of viewing it. Consider the great measures by the governments especially in developing countries like India and the initiatives they take to eradicate poverty. Poverty here refers to the heat faced by poor people and the policies are unfortunately the non working air conditioners. The solution for this problem is the policy makers should be able to concentrate more on the working solutions rather than implementing non working air conditioning like mega projects to alleviate poverty.

Indology : its meaning and its dismal state

Indology is the academic study of the languages, texts, history and cultures of the Indian subcontinent, and as such a subset of Asian studies.

Indology may also be known as Indic studies or Indian studies, or South Asian studies, although scholars and university administrators sometimes have only partially overlapping interpretations of these terms.

Indology would not typically include the study of contemporary economy, government, or politics of South Asia, except insofar as these express issues that are deeply embedded in South Asian history, and may be illuminated by indological methods and insights.

Here is a good article about how Indology is becoming irrelevant in todays universities

Difference between on time and in time

In time = before you are late
On time= punctual

"in time" - there is a deadline. If we are past this deadline, we will miss the chance to do something. The show starts at 8 p.m. and no one is admitted after the show starts. I hope we will make it to the theater in time.

"on time" - there is an expected time. We are meeting friends
for dinner at 7. I hope we will be on time and we don't make them wait for us.

English from the land of angels

The letter English first appears as Englaland around the year 1000, and means "the land of the Engle," that is, the Angles. The Angles, Saxons, and Jutes were the three Germanic tribes who emigrated from what is now Denmark and northern Germany and settled in England beginning about the fourth century A.D. Early on, the Angles enjoyed a rise to power that must have made them seem more important than the other two tribes, for all three tribes are indiscriminately referred to in early documents as Angles. The speech of the three tribes was conflated in the same way: they all spoke what would have been called *Anglisc, or "Anglish," as it were. By the earliest recorded Old English, this had changed to Englisc. In Middle English, the first vowel had already changed further to the familiar (ĭ) of today, as reflected in the occasional spellings Ingland and Inglish. Thus the record shows that the Germanic residents of what Shakespeare called "this sceptered isle" knew that they were speaking English long before they were aware that they were living in England.

Spelling mistakes may sometimes be good

So ever thought how a spelling mistake could help you in the life. In web it can. It can sometimes increase visitors to your site. For example you write an article about cricket and If anyone searches for cricket in search engine your site will be in last few pages and nobody cares to see it. And you spell it as kricket and somebody by mistake enters the keywords as kricket and your site could be in top 10.
