New chief minister Siddaramiah's : A difficult ascent to throne

K Siddaramaiah is all set to become the new chief minister of Karnataka. An interesting point to note here is his past affiliations.
Favorite fifth child
In the past, Siddaramaiah was associated with H.D Devegowda and was considered as one of Gowda's favourite so much so that some used to say Siddaramaiah was treated as if he was Gowda's fifth male heir. K Siddaramaiah served as deputy chief minister in the Congress-JDS coalition headed by Dharam Singh. But as the winds changed, he was routed out of the party for nurturing chief ministerial ambitions. K Siddaramaiah joined congress, Dharam Singh government fell, BJP-JDS 20-(2)00 came and the rest his history.
Gowda's bane turning into boon twice ...
Yediyurappa who was denied CM post in 20-20 agreement and was at the receiving end of Gowda's ire finally ended up as CM in the next state elections. K Siddaramaiah was also on the receiving end when he was forced to resign from deputy chief minister post. Gowda's team was hell bent on making K Siddaramaiah loose in his Varuna constituency during that time. Despite this Siddaramaiah managed to win although with a narrow margin then. But this time he has won with a huge majority and his party has crossed the half way mark. Yediyurappa was though not able to deliver his five years term because of his controversial dealings. What happens to Siddaramaiah tenure will be a wait and watch game. The most important advantage Siddaramaiah enjoys is the absolute majority in the assembly which the former didn't had and eventually the main reason for his decline.

It is Sreeramalu all de way in Bellary Rural Bypoll

The results are out, the Bellary Rural constituency has again backed the incumbent MLA Sreeramalu, who had resigned after he was dropped from the cabinet due to his name appearing in the alleged mining scam. Sreeramalu preferred to contest independently and take on the BJP and also accused the party of betrayal. The high profile election saw the group of top leaders from the state BJP campaigning for its candidate vigorously. It was a matter of great importance for the scam hit government to prove itself but has failed to do so. The results could be a turning point for the first ever BJP government of the south. As the government struggles to complete its 5 year term, Sreeramalu will be firing bullets to dispatch the Government. He is known to have influence over considerable number of MLA's which could pose a threat to the Government if they tend their resignations. The BJP on the other hand is roping in the Independents to avoid any threat to the Government.
The results of Bellary Rural Constituency stands out like this
Sreeramalu - 74,527 votes
B Ramaprasad INC - 27,737 votes
P Gadilingappa BJP- 17,366 votes
Sreeramalu has won the elections by a huge margin nearing the 50,000 mark. The JDS had not even fielded a candidate. But had tactically supported Sreeramalu. The political realignment might have begun a bit way back but is showing its first signs now. One of the prominent Muslim Leader of JDS has campaigned vigorously for Sreeramalu.
How much this result will affect the stability of the government will be a wait and watch game for the people of Karnataka.

BJP plays it safe in Karnataka

With Supreme court giving a mighty blow to the first ever Bjp government in the south by cancelling the disqualification of 11 rebel MLAS, the BJP has played it safe by winning over the mind of rebels. The rebel MLAS have reportedly sent a unconditional support to the Governer and also have withdrawn their earlier letter .

Is the present crisis as simple as this ???

With two of the rival groups within his party gaining more and more momentum for their voice in recent days, BSY has manged to cross the divide as easy as he is doing in the image. The BJP has once again shown its strenth of unity in the Vikasa Yatre held in Davangere with the previous absentes like Eshwarappa, Sriramalu and Janardhan Reddy making their attendance and strongly backing the leadership, it seems BSY has again succeeded in breaking the wall quite easily.

Are they really united ?

Finally Siddaramiah has been rewarded with the post of leader of opposition. But how much can he deliver? There is a strong feeling against outsiders in the party. Will he able to carry along all the factions together? With so many people up against him it will be really a very difficult time for him to come up...

Third Front's First Flop show

Seems like Prakash Karath has blind love for Farmers son Devegowda. The later after dumping the congress government and joining hands with BJP in Karnataka had also breached the trust by refusing CM post to BJP. This gave the life time opputunity for an independent government for BJP in the South and all the credit must go to Devegowda and his son. But still Karath and other third front leaders gather in Tumkur 60 Kms from Bangalore to annouce the third front.

Why Gujarat model of develpment cannot be enforced in Karnataka

  • There are many power centres in Karnataka, nobody knows who takes the final shots on different issues compare to Gujarat here everything is finalized by one man.
  • The leading man in Gujarat does not have any immediate family and he strives hard only for party and state but in Karnataka there is an additional family factor which has the highest adverse impact.
  • The Hindu fundamentalists have been on upbeat in Karnataka and in fact messing the things in Government on the contrary in Gujarat there is messing of things within the fundamentalists rather than in the Government.

Operation Kamala

Operation Kamala was undertaken by BJP in Karnataka 6months back where in 8 of the MLAs from the opposite parties resigned to their seats and sought to contest again on BJP tickets. BJP which is 3 short of majority as of now in the assembly did this because of the swinging nature of the independents. But will this be useful for it? What if it turns counterproductive for BJP? If only 3 of them wins BJP will be in absolute majority for sure but a similar Operation Congress cannot be ruled out after that.

Olympics in Beijing saffronises Bangalore

The scheduled Olympics has already started showing some results in India, though there are less expectations from our participants to get a gold medal, some politicians have got a diamond!!! The mining in and around Bellary got an unexpected boom during the course of construction work for Olympics in China. The cash rich miners became so powerful that they were the most powerful lobby in the state government and consequently in the recent elections they have been successful in getting major portfolios in the cabinet with BJP coming into power on its own in South for the first time

The Left pulls out of the Government,,,,,

And the impact will be seen all over the country, political equations change and the party which has one or two M.P in the Lok Sabha are all smiling just like the Devegowda's JD(S). He is trying to make good use of it. And the damage is going to be done on the Congress party in Karnataka. DG's arch rival Siddaramaya is already upset with the Congress and this move could tear him apart with the party. So the Left pulls out of the Government in the Centre and more likely that Siddaramaya would quit the Congress and this may eventually lead to strengthening of BJP in Karnataka. This is only a matter of one state but in states like UP, Congress will be losing much more.

1 2 3 4 and still counting....

This is the head counting of the MLAs who have been resigning in the Karantaka Assembly. Two are from JD(S) and two from Congress. They hope to get elected again from BJP ticket and get them the magic number of 113. It is seen as a major blow to Congress and JD. It all started with the Independents talking with Congress and JD for formation of a new government where they would be well placed than in the present government and possible a Deputy CM berth for an Independent, but BJP has spoiled their gameplan and might be Independents would be pushed to corners in the coming days.....

We have Independance day on August 15 but....

The time has come for Independents Years in the Karnataka politics with BJP falling short of 3 seats to get simple majority, the independent MLAs have got more importance. % out of 6 of them have been included in the cabinet, although they are not given the berths they expected. But there is a secret deal for which they are supporting but nobody knows whats that ..... So they are celebrating 5 years of Independent Years. And lets see whats their next gameplan, which is surely going to change after Lok Sabha elections.

P G R Sindhia kicked by elephant

P G R Sindhia is kicked off from the BSP by Mayawati after the zero performance in the recently held Karnataka polls, and accused him of helping BJP in the run up. Whats more interesting is that he was not aware of this until the press reports came in. So Mayawathis elephant destroyed the opposition parties in UP but in Karnataka it is taking a toll on its own leader!!!

Haveri shootout : a fallout of Globaliszation

The violence in karnataka over the shortfall of seeds and fertilizers is making headlines. One farmer has been killed in Haveri during protests by farmer. But whats the reason for the lack of supply of seeds and fertilizers, it has been stated that the Central Government is reluctant to provide pending subsidy bills to the manufacturing companies and obviously there is shortage in supply. So whats influencing the Central Government in arm twisting of the pay towards the subsidy, it is clearly the impact of the Globalization which has introduced the notion of cutting up of subsidies in almost every sector including agriculture.

Yediyurrapa CM Post : Key is Siddaramaya

Yediyurappa is all set to become chief minister again after serving 7 days in the T-20 government, now the big question is who is the reason behind his success?
According to me its the Siddaramaya, who was Deputy CM and finance minister in Congress-JD(S) lead alliance before the T-20 format of BJP-JD(S) came into existence. Here are the facts
Siddaramaya was ousted out of the JD(S) and M.P.Prakash was made the DCM during the end of congress JD coalition rule and Devegowda was very much irritated with the Congress when they formed alliance with Siddaramaya in old Mysore region to gain power in some local bodies. This move was seen by Gowda as an attempt to increase factionalism in his party by the Congress. This prompted Kumarswamy to join hands with BJP and became CM. Though in the beggining the DG was reluctant to accept the Government formed, later blessed it and eventually it was known to everyone that he was the real director of the film.
So after 20 months the power was not handed over to Yediyurappa, and the Congress were talking with Prakash about forming Government. It was the movement when Prakash met the Gowda's arch rival Siddaramaya that Kumarswamy reverted back and handed over power back to Yediyurappa and the rest is all history.
And now when the polls are over and the BJP settled at number that was 3 short of majority, 3 independents who are the loyalists of the Siddaramaya demanded the Congress to make Siddhu as CM candidate and they will support Congress. But how can ever Congress succumb to such pressure and now all the Independents are with BJP.
So every move the Siddaramaya makes its the advantage Yediyurappa. After taking Oath as CM the one man he should not forget thanking is of course Siddaramaya

Karnataka election result : a micro coalition

Karnataka has finally elected a new Government. And the BJP has emerged as the clear winner. But they have failed to get the simple majority but are just three seats away from that this time. And the independents are having the key of Vidhana Soudha. So can the BJP be able to form the Government? With strategy players like Reddy, it should be a easy walk for them. But in mean time we should not forget what happened in Jharkhand which had the same situation, where BJP first formed the Government but eventually lost out and Madhu Khoda an independent MLA has become Chief Minister.

Karnataka exit polls

The 3 phase elections are over in Karnataka and the results are going to be announced in less than 48 hours. The exit polls done by different news agencies throw a different picture altogether. Altogether they are making bluff of the results, how can they decide the fate of all the constituencies just by asking questions to few people that too not covering all the constituencies. These exit polls are done to increase the TRP values of the news channel and nothing else.
