UNNATI : IT revolution in KARNATAKA spearheaded by COMAT Tech

UNNATI is perhaps the first of its kind in the country, and is being promoted by one of India’s largest rural IT services company, Comat Technologies, in association with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Tata-AIG General Insurance Company Limited. Incidentally, Comat is credited to have revolutionized IT in Karnataka through its Bhoomi and Nemmadi projects and was first to undertake IT applications on a large scale to rural areas.

UNNATI seeks to provide a special package for rural citizens that will address some of their primary needs such as mobile connectivity, computer education, and insurance. And, all three benefits will come at a nominal fee of Rs.105/-.

“UNNATI is a revolutionary package that combines benefits of mobile connectivity, IT education and insurance cover for the welfare of rural citizens in Karnataka.

Explaining the 3 salient features of the scheme, he said each family that enrolls for UNNATI will get:

  1. BSNL SIM Card with pre-loaded talk time. The SIM can be activated at any of the stores offering BSNL connections.

  1. One member in the family will be allowed to enroll for a basic computer literacy course for 20 Hrs and course is designed for a week. The course can be taken up in any Taluka centers, before taking up the course he/she should register herself by visiting any of the Nemmadi centers wherein the time and date can be decided. The course content is designed to equip the learner to quickly grasp computer fundamentals and carry out basic operations.

  1. Personal accident insurance policy from Tata AIG for the Head of the family. The policy will protect the well being of the family against any disruption due to an accident to the head/earning member of family. In case of death of the insured person, the family will get a cover worth Rs. 50,000/-. In case of disability of the insured person due to an accident, the family will get a cover worth Rs. 1,00,000/-.

The UNNATI scheme is proposed to be launched during the ration card distribution process. Comat has been working with the Karnataka Food & Civil Supplies Ministry on the Akshaya Project and will soon begin the distribution of computerized ration cards to 90 Lakh families across the State.

The Unnati scheme will be made available in every village across the state, in a phased manner. Every rural family will be allowed to access this beneficial 3 in 1 welfare package.
