Kumb Mela History

Kumbmela
Story - During the fight between God and Devils over the "Amrutha", Jayanth, the son of Indra had carried it over a crow. On the way some drops were sparked on the following places
Allahabad
Haridwar
Ujjaini
Nashik
Allahabad is considered to be sacred because of the confluence of three sacred rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswathi.
Every 12 years there will be a kumba mela. Every 144 Years once there will be Mahakumbamela which is considered to be one of the most sacred and the last one was in 2001 when more than 3 crores people attended it.
Every 6 years - Ardha kumbamela
Every 3 years - in one of the 4 cities
Every year - Maghakumbamela
