Google backed Great online shopping festival in India was a great start for online buying segment in India. But the apparent lack of great deals in the offers does makes us rethink on how immature India's online marketing segment is.
Wait, wait, wait and the waiting still continues...
Google backed it up, there was a host of companies participating, couple of banks offering special points, and thousands of discount on offers.
Something was missing!!!
The real steep discounts that were expected in line with the cyber Monday sales were missing. Was it the expectation that really hurt all of us? Probably true for all of the gadget seekers because the discounts never crossed 15% of market value when they were expecting the exact reverse (51%).
Blame game begins
Google to blame : definitely not, because they are just a platform. They never decided prices nor the discount margin.
Participants to blame : Probably yes. They are not yet understanding the cost sensitive Indian scenario. When the hype was comparable to Cyber Monday, Indians actually expect more discount rates and not the other way around
Completely flop ???
Probably no because many were happy with the discounts. The sales figure might show a big jump. The non-electronic segment might be the major contributor. The household discounts lure might finally pay off. There were many takers (especially women) for those discounts. And one of my colleagues had a double digit shopping completed in the virtual world. Just remembering the picture of a women in a shopping spree!!!
