The central government has chosen 98 cities all over the country including 24 state capitals to be developed as smart cities.
The central government is bound to spend 500 crores over a period of 5 years, whereas the state government is also expected to shell out the same amount for development of smart cities.
The smart cities will have smart grid, smart traffic management systems, better water and electricity supply, better internet connectivity, better waste management, and others.
